Happy Birthday Paw!

Moving birthday celebrations on a weekend to ensure more people could grace the occasion is a practical thing to do.  So, here we are again--at the beach!

It was baby yo's chance to play in the sand..

and swim and wade in the water.

He even partake in the fun of burying my niece best friend in the sand.

Look in here--my niece and some of her friends made few jumps while I tried to capture the joy in their faces while doing it.

Caught on cam!

This is the photo.

THE DARK TOWER ll: THE DRAWING OF THE THREE

Have you ever been tempted to read part two (2)  first of a four (4) volume novel? Imagine the confuse state you may be in when you get a hold of another volume? Relating the characters and how significant they may be in the tale does not only lead the reader perplexed but disoriented as well.

If , like me, you can't simply resist what is in the bookshelf, let this be a guide for the next volume hopping.

Inspired by the Robert Browning's narrative poem, 'Childe Roland To The Dark Tower Came," Stephen King wrote a series of four (4) volume novels on Roland of Gilead, a kind of knight, the last of his breed's obsessive quest for the Dark Tower.

The second volume, The Drawing of the Three, begins on the edge of the Western Sea, not long after Roland awakens from his confrontation with his old nemesis and discovers Walter-- the man in black, who pretended friendship with Roland's father but who actually served Marten, a great sorcerer-- long dead, only more bones in a place of bones. The exhausted gunslinger is attacked by carnivorous 'lobstrities' (pictured as gigantic man-eating lobsters) and before he can escape them, he has been seriously wounded, losing the first two fingers of his right hand. He is also poisoned by their bites, and as he resumes his trek along the Western Sea, Roland is sickening...perhaps dying.

On his walk, he encounters three doors standing freely on the beach. These open into the city of New York, at three different whens. From 1987, Roland draws Eddie Dean, a prisoner. From 1964, he draws Odetta Susannah Holmes, a woman who has lost her lower legs in a subway mishap...one that was no accident. She is indeed a lady of shadows, with a second personality within the socially committed black woman her friends know. This hidden woman, the violent and crafty Detta Walker, is determined to kill both Roland and Eddie when the gunslinger draws her into Mid-World.

Between these two in time, once again in 1977, Roland enters the hellish mind of Jack Mort, who has hurt Odetta/Detta not once but twice. 'Death,' the man in black told Roland, 'but not for you, gunslinger.' Nor is Mort the third of whom Walter foretold; Roland prevents Mort from murdering Jake Chambers, and shortly after Mort dies beneath the wheels of the same train which took Odetta's legs in 1959. Roland thus fails to draw the psychotic into Mid-World. But he thinks, who would want such a being in any case.

Roland thinks that perhaps he has drawn three in just Eddie and Odetta, since Odetta is a double personality, yet when Odetta and Detta merge as one in Susannah (thanks in large part to Eddie Dean's love and courage), the gunslinger knows it's not so. He knows something else as well: he is tormented by thoughts of Jake, the boy who, dying, spoke of other worlds. Half of the gunslinger's mind, in fact, believes there never was a boy. In preventing Jack Mort from pushing Jake in front of the car meant to kill him, Roland has created a temporal paradox which is tearing him apart. And, in our world, it is tearing Jake Chambers apart as well.

Happy Reading!

Relieving Abdominal Pain Without the Pill.

In my tender years, I  have learned a few things from my elder sister. With both parents working hard for our provisions, she is more than a helping hand--from proper use of the pad, feminine hygiene, and managing the most hated abdominal cramps.

The Hot Water Bottle. Containers for warmth in bed had been in use since the 16th century. Modern conventional bottles come in varied form, though how it may physically represent does not matter as long as it is secured and serves its purpose.

Its preparation comes very easy. Tap water from the faucet and some previously boiled water depending on the level of warmth you may need. If it's too warm, you can pour out some and replace with more tap water or wrap the bottle with a cloth to protect your skin when applied on the spot that needs warmth. The beautiful thing about it is you can fall back to sleep. This gives some relief especially for menstrual cramps.

A warm bath is another form of relieving menstrual cramps. Warm baths are believed to relax the muscles in the body, making the pain less noticeable.

Walking around can also alleviate the pain. For best results, walk briskly for 30 minute cycles at least three times a day.

Depending on the degree of pain a woman may suffer, it is advisable not just to stay quiet about it. If what you learned from your friends isn't enough; if the pain is consistent, it would be best to see the doctor for medical advice.

Weekend at the beach.

My brother's homecoming is always anticipated. His career in the entertainment world makes him go to different places here and abroad. This is often the reason why we make time to meet each time he unexpectedly comes home.

Watch what's going to happen. My brother is about to share something and my sister can't help laughing...

See how much we miss having fun together! I love the bangs but I would rather keep my hair away from my face especially when I'm at the beach.

One thing I like about getting together is being with my siblings friends. In a way, their friends become my friends. And I get to see the common factor that makes friendships wonderful.

The FUN factor and the freedom to be yourself.

Happy Weekend  Bonding!

SENDONG. A year after.

I've often wondered how it would be a year after typhoon Sendong devastated homes and wasted lives in our city. It sounds horrendous hearing victims tell their tale on that fatal night. In a split second, a wrong decision could take away your precious life. And it's quite amazing to know, no one has exactly the same story to tell.

As I woke up at 3am today, I sadly recalled how frantic we were seeing muddy water getting inside our home. Though our home was elevated, it was already on my breast level that time. If we had to climb through the 5ft perimeter fence to get to the roof of our one-storey home, we will have to swim as water may be deeper outside. It left us no other choice that minute but climbed on the railing to get on top of our van in the garage. It was the immediate move I could think of that time.

A picture of the white van that saved our lives and the little black car we bought ten (10) days before the flood. It was a frightful experience seeing muddy water around you with the other car totally submerged into it.

Notice the wall that pictured where the water level may have stabilized. We had a difficult time the next day getting the dog who was wise enough to swim her way inside the window grill. She was still shaking as we removed the last jalousie for her easy way out.

This is just one (1) of the horrendous sites I have ever witnessed in our neighborhood. Somehow, I am very grateful that this did not happen to us.

Having dinner and a break from it all. We had to get up and be strong because no one else would do it for us.

Once again, I am grateful to the Almighty for answering prayers even before I utter them.

For friends and relatives who prayed and gave us strength.

Let's celebrate life!

Philippine Independence Day 2012.

June 12, 2012.  It was unlike other Independence days when we used to wake up early and head for divisoria or the main streets to witness the city parade. This time we went to the mall to evade the unfavorable weather. We wanted to just sit and watch a show or maybe just go around the mall for something interesting and patriotic to commence the historic event. And we got what we came for.

Look here. This is a showcase of paintings. It illustrates the era when Philippines was under the Spanish Regime and the uprising to regain freedom.

The Cry of Balintawak which is also known as Cry for Freedom and later on shown in the form of a cultural dance.

Students in filipino costumes serenading the audience with wonderful filipino master pieces.

BEST ATTRACTION OF THE EVENT.

Who would have thought that what looked like a queen size bed covered by a huge filipino flag was actually a bed of "vjandep buns?" http://www.foodamn.com/2011/10/camiguin-vjandep-pastel-buns-with.html

I fell in line, too for free pieces of it.  Could you tell where I am in this photo? I'm in between the guys in green and red shirts.

Happy 114th Independence day.

Mabuhay ang Pilipinas!

The current school year 2011-2012 has just ended. We've been jubilant seeing son as he graduated and had our share of pride on him being a recipient of special awards.

This is my 2nd time to enjoy summer. Behind me is the kiddie pool right next to the adult pool. I can't help missing our van in family outings like this. Imagine being jampacked in a little car when you are so used to have more room and comfort while on the road. And we had to choose what is necessary to make things easier for all of us.

Anyway, I had fun time with my siblings with each of our families. I'm wishing and looking forward to more summer outings.

This one's a sample of the fun I just had.
